The Superior Group firewall will be offline 7/31/10 9pm EST – 8/1/10 6pm EST. The Polestar firewall will be offline 7/31/10 11pm EST – 11:45pm EST. Keeping your mailbox quota in check can be tricky. Even after deleting junk and old messages, you can still find yourself with a significant chunk of e-mail that you need to keep but don’t have the space for.

But how much e-mail do you really need instantly, at your fingertips?

By using zimbra desktop, you can archive mail messages to your local computer – letting you keep whatever you want, without having to worry about quota limits on the server. Utilizing this method, you can keep your zimbra inbox small (say, only 2 weeks back) and still have everything available to you in your zimbra desktop. It also means you’ll have access to your e-mail, regardless of internet connectivity.

Since our upgrade to 6.0.7 there has been a change in some of the spam scoring that has affected some e-mail, causing it to end up in your junk folder when normally, or at least pre 6.0.7, would not…

We have made some changes to correct (or at least work-around) the issue… you can help  by marking any mail that ends up in your junk folder that shouldn’t be there as “not spam”.

As a side note, if you do get mail in your spam folder that should not be there, and marking it as “not spam” does not get it to your inbox in a day or two of marking it, you can goto (in the Zimbra Web Client) Preferences/Mail.  At the bottom of that screen, you’ll see an area that will allow you to whitelist (and blacklist) specific e-mails to over-ride the decisions being made by the internal spam system.

Please let us know if you continue to have any issue with mail ending up as spam that should not be….

For those of you that were having issues with the Social Zimlet, the problem has been corrected… Let the time wasting begin!

Wow… the Social Zimbra Zimlet is really cool… so cool, that… I decided to disable it for most of the domains… boy… what a time suck that Zimlet could be…

So… You have the link that describes it and if a “responsible party” for your domain says its ok, then great, we’ll enable… but I definatly put this in the “needs to be approved” column…

All the other Zimlets have been deployed…

Our main Firewall at PoleStar will be rebooted at 6am EST on Friday the 9th.

We will be upgrading Zimbra from 6.0.6 to 6.0.7p1 tonight around 10:00PM EST tonight… expect the system to be down for approx :15-:30 per server while we apply this update as well as some OS updates…

Zimbra also has an extension framework that allows funtionality to be added to your Zimbra client using something called a Zimlets… We don’t normally make many of these available because we want to keep the system as stable as possible, since not all Zimlets are products of “Zimbra”… don’t want to pollute the waters so to speak…

While there are a variety of services out there that have solutions for file sharing across the internet, a majority of people still share files via E-mail. And as bandwidth availability has increased, so has the limitations in place on mailservers; albeit at a scattered pace. Still, sharing small files like pictures or documents via e-mail generally works out and is more or less seamless. But when you start trying to share larger files, it can become problematic. Luckily for Zimbra users, you can use the briefcase feature to share large files with anyone that can download files from their web browser (everyone)
